Meerschaum pipes have been very popular for centuries. The secret thereby is the special microstructure of the material. Meerschaum is a naturally occurring stone that absorbs unwanted substances like tar due to its porosity. In this respect meerschaum also excels the frequently applied Bruyere (wood of the heath tree). A new meerschaum pipe is quite light yellow, almost white. After a while the color changes due to the absorbed condensate towards brown or red. The following illustration shows the typical color development of a pipe that has been smoked for some years. Our Meerschaum pipe "Cobra" comes in a beautiful classic pipe case. The shape is traditional with an elaborate carving - a cobra coiling around the bowl. The meerschaum feels pleasantly warm and is surprisingly light. The length of the whole pipe amounts to 11 cms, the pipe bowl has a diameter of approx. 3 cms. Bowl and mouthpiece may be taken apart for easy cleaning. Since meerschaum can be relatively soft right after smoking, the pipe should be cleaned only when dried and cold.
