Bong Vaporizers
What is a clip-on vaporiser for bongs?
A bong vaporiser is a special vaporiser that is placed on top of a water pipe (bong) to vaporise herbs or concentrates instead of burning them.
The vapour produced is cooled and filtered by the water in the bong, which makes for a smoother and more pleasant inhalation process.

Why combine a vaporiser with a bong?
Smoother and cooler vapour
Smoother and cooler vapour
Vapour from a vaporizer can often be hot and dry, especially at higher temperatures. Bong water filtration cools the vapour and makes it more comfortable for the lungs and throat. This allows you to take deeper puffs without itching or discomfort.
More intense flavour
Water filtration filters out some unwanted particles or harsh flavours.
More efficient use of herbs
With a bong, you can take larger puffs because the vapour is not as hot. This allows more active ingredient (e.g. THC or CBD) to reach your lungs, which increases the efficiency and effect of the vaporiser.
What types of vaporisers can be combined with bongs?
Portable vaporiser with bong adapter
Portable vaporiser with bong adapter
These compact, battery-powered vaporisers can often be connected to a bong using a glass adapter. They are particularly popular because they are portable and easy to use. Examples include the Crafty+ 2.0 vaporiser from Storz & Bickel or the HIZEN STILUS MINI vaporiser.
Mechanical (butane-powered) vaporisers for bongs
These models are heated with a flame (e.g. by a jet flame lighter) and are very easy to insert into a bong. They are a kind of hybrid between traditional smoking and vaporising.
Electronic vs. mechanical solutions
The advantage of mechanical vaporisers lies in the price. They are significantly cheaper than the electronic alternatives. They are also completely independent of power sources and batteries.
On the other hand, you don't need a lighter for electronic vaporisers and you have a guaranteed constant vapour level, as the vaporisation point is reached exactly and there is guaranteed to be no combustion. You also don't need as much practice, which is always necessary when using analogue techniques.
Vaporiser type | Advantages | Disadvantages |
---|---|---|
Portable battery vaporiser with bong adapter | - Simple operation at the touch of a button - Precise temperature control for an optimal vapour experience - No lighter/butane required - Good selection of devices for herbs & concentrates - Water filtration ensures cooler & smoother puffs |
- Battery dependent (regular charging required) - Higher price than analogue attachments - May have a heat-up time depending on the device - Some models require special bong adapters |
Analogue attachments for bongs (DynaVap, glass vapes) | - No battery required → Always ready for use - Very durable (hardly any wearing parts) - Cheaper than battery-powered vaporisers - Very efficient when vaporising herbs - Strong & dense vapour clouds possible |
- Lighter or induction heater required (e.g. storm lighter) - Steeper learning curve (correct heating requires practice) - No precise temperature control - Can become very hot due to open fire |

Ground joint sizes: 14 mm, 18 mm and more
In most cases, you will need a bong adapter that adapts the connection of your vaporiser to the joint size of the bong. The most common joint sizes are 10 mm, 14 mm and 18 mm.
Male vs. female adapter
If you want to connect a vaporiser to a bong, it is important to know whether you need a male or female adapter. The difference lies in the way the adapter fits into the bong's joint. A male adapter has a narrower, insertable glass cut that fits into a female bong opening. It is often used with vaporisers that can be inserted directly into a bong. You need a male adapter if your bong has a female connection or your vaporiser or glass adapter has a female opening that fits over the male adapter.
A female adapter, on the other hand, has a wider opening into which a male joint is inserted. This is particularly necessary if your bong has a male connection or your vaporiser is equipped with a male connection that needs to be inserted into a female holder. Female adapters are often used for vaporisers such as the Mighty, Arizer or PAX with bong adapters, as these often have a male cut. Many Mighty or Arizer bong adapters are 14 mm or 18 mm male, for example, so you will need either a female-ground bong or a female adapter.
The right application - How to use a vaporiser with a bong
Optimum temperature settings for the best results
Optimum temperature settings for the best results
The right vaping temperature plays a decisive role in flavour, effect and efficiency. Depending on the temperature, different active ingredients (cannabinoids, terpenes) are released, which greatly influences the vaping experience. Unfortunately, with mechanical vaporiser attachments, these temperatures cannot be achieved with pinpoint accuracy, which requires a little experience and practice. Electronic vaporisers, on the other hand, are precisely adjustable.
- Low temperatures (160-180 °C) → Mild, aromatic, clear effect
- Medium temperatures (180-200 °C) → Balanced, intense flavour, stronger effect
- High temperatures (200-230 °C) → Strong vapour, maximum effect, less flavour
