Build Your Own Vaporizer: Does It Really Work?

The high purchase price makes many people wonder whether they might prefer to build their own vaporizer, and we've had a fair few requests for a vaporizer build guide too. A single, universal set of instructions is hard to give, because there are so many different ways to imitate or build a vaporizer yourself.
The easiest option is to convert your bong into a vaporizer. You can use special bowls, or use the bong directly with a heat gun to vaporize your herb rather than burn it.
If you want to build a complete vaporizer yourself, you could take a cue from one of the better-known homemade models, the Verdamper. In essence it's nothing more than a DIY vaporizer: a heat gun, a glass jar with a cork seal, a chillum and a mouthpiece. The catch is that no matter how well you pull it off and how well the vaporizer works, it will always look improvised and end up as a rather fragile construction.
You can also put together a very simple vaporizer from an old light bulb, a couple of straws and the screw cap of a plastic bottle. The device then works on the same principle as a Smoke Bubble. Bear in mind that a light bulb isn't designed for this: its inner coating can release harmful residues when heated, so this stays an improvised solution with real limits.
