Außerdem wird der Growraum ja warme und feuchte Luft enthalten, was bedeutet, dass man keine Materialien verwenden sollte, die zu Schimmelbefall neigen. Spanplatten z.B. sind billig, aber ein ziemlicher Schimmelmagnet. Außerdem neigen sie je nach Qualität und insbesondere bei feuchter Hitze dazu, Leim und chemische Stoffe abzusondern, was weder für die Pflanzen, noch für die Luft, in der man schließlich leben muss, gut ist.
