Here you will find everything you need to know about the various fertilisers from Canna to make the ideal choice for your setup.
Your path to the right Canna fertiliser: a quick overview
The variety of Canna can seem overwhelming at first glance. Don't worry, this overview will help you quickly find the right line for your preferred growing medium and philosophy:
Line | Cultivation medium | Focus / speciality | Type |
---|---|---|---|
Terra | Soil & peat-based substrates | Proven, easy to use | Mineral |
Coco | Coco substrates | Especially for coco buffering, A+B | Mineral |
Aqua | Recirculating hydro systems | Precise control, directly available | Mineral |
Hydro | Drain-to-waste hydro systems | For open systems, directly available | Mineral |
BioCanna | Soil (primary), for organic cultivation | 100% plant-based, OMRI/CU certified | Organic |
The main Canna lines in detail: the top choice for every substrate
Now let's take a closer look at the individual lines so that you understand exactly what's behind the names and what benefits they offer you.
Canna Terra: The proven classic for soil
If you grow on soil or soil-like substrates, the Canna Terra line is often the first choice. It is known for its uncomplicated application and reliably delivers top results. With Terra Vega for the growth phase and Terra Flores for the flowering phase, you optimally cover the basic needs of your plants. This Canna Terra fertiliser is chelated, which means that the nutrients remain readily available even with fluctuating pH values - a real plus point for beginners and experienced growers alike.
Canna Coco: Specialised nutrients for coco substrates
Coco substrate is a fantastic medium, but it has its peculiarities - it tends to bind certain nutrients such as calcium. This is exactly where the Canna Coco line comes in. This two-component fertiliser(Coco A & Coco B) is specifically designed to balance the buffering effect of coco and provide your plants with precise nutrition from start to harvest. The separate A&B bottles prevent high-quality nutrients from reacting with each other before they enter the nutrient solution - a detail that makes all the difference.
Canna Hydro & Aqua: Precision for hydroponic systems
Precision counts in hydroponic cultivation. Canna Hydro & Aqua (for drain-to-waste and recirculating systems respectively) deliver just that. Both are also two-component fertilisers(A+B) whose nutrients are directly available to the plants, as no soil substrate serves as a buffer. They give you precise control over the nutrient supply - ideal if you want to maximise your system and results.
BioCanna: Fertilise naturally with certified organic quality
Do you value purely organic cultivation and want to avoid synthetic additives? Then BioCanna is your line. These fertilisers are 100% plant-based, carry official organic certifications (such as OMRI and Control Union) and promote healthy soil life. BioCanna products such as Bio Vega and Bio Flores feed your plants naturally and many growers report a particularly pure flavour from their harvest. Perfect for anyone who wants to garden in harmony with nature.
Just start or test everything: Canna fertiliser kits
Are you new to the world of Canna or would you like to try out a line including the most important additives in an uncomplicated way? Then the Canna fertiliser kits (often called 'starter kits') are a clever option. They usually contain the basic fertilisers (such as Terra Vega/Flores or Coco A/B) and a selection of popular additives such as Rhizotonic or Boost in smaller containers. This allows you to get started straight away without having to put everything together individually and gives you a good impression of what is possible with Canna fertiliser kits.
Get more out of your grow: The most important Canna additives
The basic fertilisers from Canna provide a solid foundation. But if you want to maximise growth, health and yield, the Canna additives come into play. Here is a brief introduction to the most popular helpers:
- Rhizotonic: Your starting aid for explosive and healthy root growth - ideal for young plants and cuttings.
- Cannazym: An enzyme mix that breaks down dead roots, improves the substrate and promotes nutrient uptake.
- Canna Boost Accelerator: Gives your plants a real boost in the flowering phase, promotes fruit formation and can shorten the ripening time.
- PK 13/14: The classic flowering booster with concentrated phosphorus and potassium for dense, heavy flowers in the decisive phase.

Important for top results: The Canna fertiliser scheme
A Canna fertiliser only develops its full potential when used correctly. Canna provides detailed fertiliser charts for every product line and every substrate. These give you precise recommendations for the dosage in each plant phase (growth, flowering). It's really worth taking a look! This will help you avoid over- or under-fertilising and give your plants exactly what they need, when they need it. You can also find more information on this in our guide to fertiliser schedules.
FAQ - Frequently asked questions about Canna fertilisers
Here we answer the most frequently asked questions about Canna fertilisers.
What does A & B mean for Canna Coco / Hydro / Aqua?
These fertilisers contain highly concentrated nutrients, especially calcium (often in part A) and phosphates/sulphates (often in part B), which must remain separate until they are dissolved in the water. If they were mixed in concentrated form, they could react chemically and form insoluble compounds (precipitates) that are no longer available to the plant. Therefore, always add both components (A and B) to the Irrigation water one after the other according to the instructions and stir well.
💡 Tip: Always add component A to the water first, mix well and only then add component B. Never mix directly together!
Mineral (Terra, Coco, Hydro) vs. organic (BioCanna) - Which is better for me?
Both approaches have their advantages and disadvantages. Mineral fertilisers (Terra, Coco, Hydro/Aqua) provide nutrients in a form that plants can absorb directly. This enables very precise control and often quick results. Organic fertilisers such as BioCanna must first be decomposed by microorganisms in the substrate before the nutrients are available to the plants. This promotes soil life and many growers appreciate the resulting flavour. However, organic cultivation can require a little more experience in managing the substrate.
💡 Tip: If you want maximum control and quick availability, mineral fertilisers are often easier. If active soil life and a potentially 'purer' flavour are important to you and you are willing to maintain the substrate, BioCanna is a great choice. When using mineral fertilisers (especially Hydro/Coco), remember to check the pH and EC levels!
