Shishas - oriental water pipes with history & style
The shisha, also known as the oriental water pipe, is much more than just a trend: it is a piece of culture and history of enjoyment that has connected people all over the world for centuries.
The hookah probably originated in India in the 16th century. It reached the Arab world via Persia and was further developed there - particularly in Egypt, Turkey and Syria. Today, shisha has become an integral part of smoking culture worldwide - and has long since arrived in our country too.
Whether alone for relaxation or together with friends: Shisha smoking stands for enjoyment, socialising and atmosphere.
What is a shisha?
The shisha as we know it today consists of a bowl (water container), a smoking column, a head for the tobacco and one or more hoses.
When smoking, the flavoured tobacco is heated with the help of glowing coal. The resulting smoke passes through the water and is cooled and filtered before being inhaled through the hose.
The result: a pleasantly mild, cool smoke that can be complemented by a wide range of flavours - from sweet and fruity to tangy and spicy.
🌍 What is shisha called worldwide?
Shisha has many names - depending on the region and culture, the name can vary considerably. To help you keep track, we have put together a brief overview of what the oriental water pipe is called in different parts of the world:

Frequently asked questions about hookahs
Is shisha smoking healthier than cigarettes?
No - even if the smoke has a milder effect, it contains nicotine and harmful substances. Shisha smoking is therefore not considered healthy, but should be enjoyed consciously and in moderation.
How exactly does a shisha work?
Pulling on the hose creates a vacuum. The charcoal heats the tobacco, the smoke is drawn through the water and inhaled via the hose.
How do I clean my shisha?
Ideally after each use: rinse out the bowl, blow through the hose (if suitable), clean the smoke column and bowl with hot water or a special shisha cleaner.
