Zig Zag rolling paper has been synonymous with quality cigarette rolling and outstanding smoking pleasure for more than 100 years.

Zig Zag rolling papers and smoking accessories

Alongside other Manufacturers, Zig Zag is one of the French varieties of cigarette paper that can look back on a long tradition. The predecessor manufactory was founded in Paris back in 1879 and specialised in suitable rolling paper for roll-your-own smokers right from the start. Just 20 years later - in 1894 - the owners Maurice and Jacques Braunstein developed a previously unknown packing system for their paper. The system of interlocking cigarette papers, which stabilise themselves in the pack and can be pulled out easily and safely one by one, was based on an ancient design pattern, the zigzag pattern, and the name Zig Zag was born.

Zig Zag - the logo

Zig Zag cigarette paper is immediately recognisable by its eye-catching logo, which is initially reminiscent of a sailor, but actually depicts a Zouave soldier whose tobacco pipe was shot during a battle in the Crimean War. In desperation and in search of a suitable replacement, he finally decided to tear small pieces from his gunpowder bag and wrap his tobacco in them. Remnants of black powder on the cigarette paper didn't seem to be a problem for some reason. Or maybe old soldiers are more used to the funny effects of smoking such flavoured papers.
